Kayak-ity Yak!

It's summertime, so once again a group of MCC students, staff and friends enjoyed a night on the Merrimack River in Lowell, kayaking into the sparkling sunshine and continuing an annual tradition and spotlighting the MCC Outdoor Adventure Club!

Launching from the UMass Lowell Boathouse, with a short tutorial from UMass staff on the proper way to steer your boat, the hardy crew set sail, or set kayaks and canoes, toward Chelmsford and Tyngsboro.  Don't these folks look ready to conquer the high seas?

MCC student Richard Bolton brought along his fishing equipment; but unfortunately no fish were biting.

A group of adventurous students and staff found the first boat dock and took advantage of the warm weather for a quick swim and best cannon ball contest.

After a few rough starts and lots of laughs, the first-timers got the hang of paddling down river and were able to maneuver their boats back safely!

The S.S. MCC team was out on the river for almost two hours and was rewarded with pizza on the deck of the boathouse while watching the dragon boats training for the Cambodian Water Festival being held this Saturday!

They'll be back out there next summer!  Let's give the whole club a big wave to show our support!

Awesome, Jonathan - such a great experience for all involved!  I only recently went kayaking for the first time and fell in love with it.  Probably because it's pretty easy and a whole lot of fun! Kudos to you and your staff -
