Making their (Pillow)Case for Fighting Cancer

A group of Middlesex staffers on the Bedford campus are sewing pillowcases for young cancer patients. As part of ConKerr Cancer’s A Case for Smiles program (www.ConKerrCancer.org), the group gathered after work recently in the Bedford Campus Center’s Café East and sewed 50 colorful pillowcases for children and adolescents undergoing cancer treatment at Dana Farber, Massachusetts General, Boston Children’s and Emerson hospitals. More Middlesex volunteers will wash, iron and package each pillowcase.
The ConKerr Pillowcase Project was organized by Maureen Hudson, MCC’s Purchasing Coordinator, and all the fabric was donated by avid quilter Susan Fitzpatrick, Facilities Management Administrative Assistant. Others volunteering in the project include Ashley Patuto, Judy Murphy, Phyllis Worth, Diane Coakley, Charlotte Cardullo, Leslie Turcotte, Chris Lindsey, Ann Dawson, Diane Casey, Idania Coa Cepeda, Betty DiGangi, Scott Cahill, Millie Rosado, Jackson Chege and Judy Wong.
If all goes well, the ConKerr Pillowcase Project will be opened up to the entire college community this spring, as part of the MCC’s Seasons of Service initiative.
