The Iceman Cometh! (Now Goeth Away)

Talk about an icy reception!  Not even winter yet, and folks are already tired of the weather conditions!

Here we are, days after what seemed to be an innocent enough ice storm comes through the area, and some MCC folks - not to mention tens of thousands of others in the greater MCC community - are still without power.  Folks from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Association are comparing the damages and devastation from the storm to the Blizzard of '78, without the snow.  The difference being that people are able to travel from Point A to Point B during this latest winter whack.

Let's hear from folks out there, who've been able to get onto a computer.  What's your experience in the Ice Storm of 08?  Got an interesting tale about toughing it out in the wilds?  Got some photos of the damages or the icy landscape to share?  Tell us your storm story!

This storm was horrible.  Where I live here in Billerica my street didn't get touched at all but if you travel a couple of minutes in either direction is was like a tornado came through.  Hold on tight the rest of the week looks crappy.

Not to sound corny but this storm really made me think about how lucky I am and how grateful I am for everything in my life.  Yes, I had tree branches fall all over my yard and we have quite a bit of clean up ahead of us. I was out of electricity for a 2 days and my kids routines and moods were all out of wack. Our house was cold and I was worried about burst pipes and spoiling food. Not to mention we missed two Christmas parties.

BUT...I had somewhere to go.  My inlaws opened up their warm house to us and feed us. Nobody was hurt from falling trees and thankfully we had no damage to our house or cars.  Everyone we care about is alive and well and made it through the storm just fine.

I couldn't help but think of the folks less fortunate. The people that were forced to go to a shelter or the homeless people that were out on the street in these horrible conditions. The people who's business suffered due to the power outage and are worried about buying food for the week. I thought about the people who had major damage to their homes and the people who lost thier lives.

Makes ya think!

I live in Groton Mass and we were hit pretty hard. I lost power Thursday night and didn't get it back until late Sunday afternoon. I was lucky to have a woodstove in the basement but I still had trouble keeping the house just above 40 degrees.

My brother in-law and I spent the entire Friday evening cutting trees and limbs that had blocked my mother and father in-law from getting out. Once we got through we hooked up a generator and got the house warmed up.

We are on well water so we made numerous trips out back to get water from the brook for the bathrooms. Simple things that we take for granted... The town had plows going up and down the roads plowing tree limbs from the road!!! Talk about crazy. We have friends just 2 towns from us still without power and might be without until after x-mas...
