Everybody's Working for the Weekend College!

Calling all weekend warriors!  Earn the degree you need at a time that works for you!

In response to changing economic times and a student population looking for more flexibility in its studies, Middlesex Community College is now fully launching its Weekend College!

MCC’s Weekend College classes generally meet for several hours on Saturdays in a 15-week format, or an accelerated eight-week format. Credit for prior learning, training, work or life experience may be granted. Up to 45 transfer credits may be awarded to students with previous college experience. Spring semester Weekend College courses begin Jan. 24, 2009 (some accelerated courses begin Jan. 10, 2009).
"We've been hearing from a number of our students who are working full-time jobs while trying to get their degrees that they need more options," said MCC President Carole Cowan.  "We're trying to be as responsive as possible to those needs while also addressing the increased enrollments that we've experienced due in great part to people trying to earn an advanced degree to help them land a job in these difficult times."
Cowan said MCC is additionally exploring even more hybrid and on-line courses to help expand the college's offerings.  She thinks the Weekend College will be palatable to many because it allows for more unconventional schooling schedules for today's busy student.

"As a college, we need to be as creative as possible in making education accessible to our students, especially in the face of today's economic struggles," Cowan said.  "We think the Weekend College will prove to be an exciting and inviting opportunity for many potential students whose busy schedules preclude them from taking advantage of conventional weekday offerings."

Weekend College at Middlesex offers a special Accelerated Business Degree Program. By combining weekend and online classes, students can earn an associate degree in business in just 24 months.

Weekend College courses can also give students additional opportunities to take required prerequisites for admission to selective programs of study, such as MCC’s popular health careers programs. Weekend College is offered primarily on MCC’s Bedford campus, but additional courses are available on MCC’s Lowell campus. Saturday advising is offered as part of Weekend College, and financial aid is available for qualified students.

So, increase your bottom line. Spend part of your weekend at Middlesex.
