What's All the Hoopla About?
This Wednesday night, an aging - yet amazingly agile - group of MCC staffers and cohorts will be taking the court against their counterparts at the University of Massachusetts Lowell for the first in what is sure to be a long and bloody series of face-offs on the basketball court. It's the debut of the MCC Middle-Agers!
The brainchild of Jonathan Crockett,
MCC's Coordinator of Student Activities, Fitness and Recreation, and Peter J. Murray, the Director of Campus Recreation for UML, the matchup is the first-ever roundball competition between the two places of higher education. The two fitness gurus saw the game as an opportunity to get the administrators, staff and faculty of two institutions in the same line of business together in a slightly different setting than what they're normally accustomed to.
MCC's squad consists of Jay Linnehan, Jonathan Crockett, Pam Flaherty, Kevin Gately, Jeff Tejada, David Martinez, Bill Howshen, Kevin Belfiore, Patrick Cook, Kathy Matheson, Lee Arzuaga, and Matt Sepe - a line-up, which because of its obvious parallels to the Boston Celtics squads of yore, is even now sending a cold chill down the spines of the UML squad.
The game takes place Wednesday, February 20, at 7 p.m. at UML's recreation center on Pawtucket Street. Admission is free, and cheering, adoring fans are more than welcome. Oxygen tanks for the MCC players will be provided by Trinity Ambulance.
