A Little Left of MCC

The Little Left of Center Fest debuted last night in the MCC Theatre at 5 East Merrimack St. (behind the Cyber Cafe) and early reports are that the show was a big hit.

The Middlesex Community College Theatre Company kicked off an evening of one-act plays last night, and continues for two more nights - Friday and Saturday - Tickets for the show are $9, $5 for MCC students and seniors, and can be purchased at the door.

This year's festival features short works that provide a night of edgy, thought-provoking theater.  From a witty play about love and romance (just in time for Valentine's Day!) to reflections on one of the greatest tragedies our country has known, the collection of one-act plays provides something for everyone.  The plays include "Sure Thing" by David Ives, "Hold for Three" by Sherry Kramer, "Andre's Mother" by Terrence McNally, "Drugs are Bad" by Jonathan Rand, "The War at Home" by Nicole Quinn and Nina Shengold and special appearances by Groucho, Harpo and Chico Marx.  Several of the works are being directed by students.  For more information about MCC's Theatre Company's Little Left of Center Fest, call the box office at 978-458-5429.

And for anyone who saw opening night - any reviews to offer up?

I was at last night's opening, and all I can say is, "What a great show!"  Professionally done, from start to finish (well I was a little late so I didn't see the actual start, but I'll bet it was professional!).  The production was fantastic, as was the acting.  The audience couldn't stop laughing through so many of the skits, and yet we were moved to stunned silence and tears for the final one. That final skit blew me, and everyone else in the audience, away.  As well-acted and heart-grabbing as anything I've ever seen in professional theater.

Kudos to Karen Oster, Performing Arts Chairperson, and her talented students for a great night of entertainment - and it only cost 5$!!  What a deal!

I wholeheartedly agree with Elise's comments. Karen and her crew have come through again. I have been at the college for many, many years, and I can honestly say that the last few performances--completely different in nature--have far exceeded my expectations. The quality of the performances, the broad range of roles for students, and the level of professionalism that the actors achieve is outstanding. Congratulations to all!
