Governor Patrick Names President Cowan to Readiness Project
Governor Deval Patrick has tapped MCC President Carole Cowan to serve on his Readiness Project Leadership Council, a team of more than 150 state citizens focusing on improving all aspects of education in Massachusetts
Said Patrick: "The educators, business representatives and practitioners who have agreed to serve on these subcommittees will help bring to life the vision for a world class, comprehensive public education system that educates and nurtures every child to the highest levels of achievement. I applaud their commitment to the Commonwelth and am delighted to have them on the team."
Working in partnership with the Readiness Project Leadership Council, the sub-committees have been tasked with putting their practical, on the ground experience implementing education programs and services to work. The subcommittees will identify specific state actions, offer cost projections and benchmarks to help carry the Commonwealth forward in education over the next decade. The Leadership Council will synthesize the work of the subcommittees and offer a draft comprehensive 10-year strategic plan to be submitted to the Governor.
President Cowan is co-chairing the Curriculum Alignment subcommittee along with Neil Sullivan, the Executive Director of the Boston Private Industry Council. Other subcommittees will tackle Assessment and Accountability, Early Education and Care, Education Technology, Expanded Teaching and Learning Time, HIgh School Plus, Innovative Schools, Long-Term Funding, MCAS and Assessments, Public and Private Education, Recruiting and Retaining Educators, Whole Child, and UMass and Public Higher Education.
