MCC Special Olympian Brings Home the Medals
Special Olympian Suzette Caffrey of Chelmsford has once again brought athetic honors back home to Middlesex Community College.
Caffrey competed this past weekend in the 2007 Special Olympics, held at Boston University. She earned three medals in swimming - a gold medal in the backstroke, a bronze in the 25 meter relay, and a bronze in the 25 meter freestyle relay.
A staff member in MCC's Lowell Campus Manager's area, Suzette says she dedicated her efforts to the memory of her beloved nephew, Christopher Wooster, the son of Debbie and John Linnehan, who passed away last year at age 26.
An accomplished swimmer, Suzette has amassed 64 Special Olympics medals over many years of competition. She is a familiar fixture at MCC's City Building, known for her hard work, good cheer and friendly demeanor. Prior to competing, Suzette met with members of the Lowell Police Academy, who ran three miles on Friday night to light the torch and open the ceremonies to start the Massachusetts Special Olympics as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. The student officers, who are stationed at MCC's Lowell campus, gave Suzette a rousing cheer and a standing ovation for her efforts.
MCC salutes Suzette for once again making us proud of her athletic accomplishments. (Click on the photo for a better look at Suzette and her Police Academy friends.)
