MCC and Lowell PD to Discuss Campus Security
MCC President Carole Cowan and Lowell Police Superintendent Kenneth Lavallee on Monday will meet with members of MCC's Lowell campus community to answer questions and help quell any anxiety brought on by the shooting rampage on Virginia Tech earlier this week. The event is open to all college personnel.
Lavallee came to the Lowell campus on Tuesday of this week, and met with a group of about 40 students, staff and faculty. During the question and answer session, both he and President Cowan tried to help students make some sense of the shootings, which at that point, were only about 24 hours old.
In the days since, though, several student have spoken with student development personnel on campus and have expressed interest in continuing a dialogue. Acting Superintendent Lavallee immediately agreed to return and continue the conversation. He will be visiting the Lowell campus at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 23, in the lower cafeteria and will be accompanied by several members of his command staff. President Cowan will also have several members of the college's internal Emergency Management team on hand to answer questions.
A similar event will be held later next week on the Bedford campus, with other members of law enforcement. Details on that meeting will be announced as soon as the event is confirmed.
