Lowell Flooding Emergency Information
Please be advised that the City of Lowell has declared a state of emergency in Lowell due to the flooding situation.  Both the Merrimack and Concord rivers are being closely monitored as both riverways continue to rise and approach flood stage.  Details about the state of emergency can be found here:  http://www.lowellma.gov/newsitems/070417weather
The City has activated its Emergency Operations Center, which will be open 24 hours until further notice.  As a result of the Merrimack River jumping its banks at several locations, numerous streets in Lowell have been closed.  A full list of the street closings can be found here:  http://www.lowellma.gov/newsitems/list-of-roads-closed-due-to-weather
At Middlesex Community College's Lowell campus, we have experienced the following due to the flooding:  There is more than 7 feet of water in the basement of the Cyber Cafe, and as a result, the gas has been shut off and there is no heat in the building.  Therefore, the Cyber Cafe is closed until further notice.  Our facilities and information technology personnel have already taken steps to protect our property and are monitoring other city buildings as well.
The Davidson Street parking lot is flooded and has been closed.  Students and personnel are advised to park in the Lower Locks Garage.
At the time of this writing, Middlesex remains open, however, we will be taking the advice of the city's emergency operations personnel as we move forward with any further decisions.
Please contact or monitor the college's information lines, the MCC website, the MCC blog, or the Boston television stations for any further updates.
