Must Love Blogs - er, Dogs at MCC

Middlesex Community College will host best-selling novelist Claire Cook, author of Must Love Dogs, in a special One World Series presentation to be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28 in the Bedford Campus Center, Cafe´ East, 591 Springs Road.

The event is free and open to the public.  This Women's History Month program will also feature a question-and-answer period with the author and a book-signing.

Cook's second novel, Must Love Dogs, was recently made into a successful romantic comedy movie starring Diane Lane and John Cusack. "Multiple Choice" and "Ready to Fall" are her other popular novels. At Middlesex, Cook will share her inspiration for writing and talk about the writing process, as well as reveal what it's like to write for Hollywood.

Ready to Fall, Cook's first novel, was written in her minivan outside her daughter's 5 a.m. swim practices. Happily, she now writes in a home office. A former teacher of physical fitness, including open-ocean rowing, and creative writing, Cook has also worked as continuity director at a radio station. She has been a judge for the Thurber Prize for American Humor and is a member of the Cape Cod Writers Center faculty. Cook lives on the South Shore with her husband, two teenagers and their dog, and is hard at work on her fourth novel.

For more information, about Claire Cook at Middlesex, call Rebecca Newell, MCC Director of Leadership Development and Student Activities, at 781-280-3763.

The One World Series at Middlesex brings speakers to the college to address topics of current interest. It is made possible through funding and support of MCC Student Union Government Association, Student Activities Office and the Writing Across the Curriculum Committee.

We hope you can join us for this event.

In the meantime, let's hear from you.  For those on the dating scene - is a love for pets a prerequisite with your perspective matches?  What other "requirements" do you look for in a partner?  How about must love books?  Must love movies?  Must love kids?  Must love chocolate?  Let us know!

I loved the movie must love Dogs! Prior to children I had my dog Snoop. He shared an apartment with me, then he moved over when (my boyfriend, now husband) moved in. He made the move with us to our new home and was the apple of our eyes until Must Love Kids came along. Then pregnant with my first child, Nicole, Snoop went to visit my in-laws (aka Hotel Hilltop) while I was in the hospital for delivery. We had complications and did not get Snoop back for a month. On several vacations Snoop went back to Hotel Hilltop. Soon after, I became pregnant again with James. Through many trips to the hospital and several more vacations, Snoop became a fixture at Hotel Hilltop. He slept on the beds, ate human food and went for three walks a day. Once James was settled into our home we called for the return of Snoop. My in-laws were attached to him and he to them. 13 years later, I have 3 Must Love kids (Danielle came that next year) and snoop has his Must Love Grandparents!
