Mike Shiley, director of "Inside Iraq: the Untold Stories" will be on MCC campus this Friday, from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Bedford Campus Center Cafeteria, 591 Springs Road.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is part of the college's One World Series, an annual speaker series addressing topics of local interest. The presentation is free and open to the public and will spotlight Shiley, show his film, and allow for an interactive discussion with the audience.
Armed only with a video camera, a homemade press pass and a local guide, Shiley recently traveled across Iraq for two months, from the Kurdish-controlled region in the north, through the infamous Sunni Triangle in central Iraq, to the sacred Shiite-controlled cities in the south. His 90-minute documentary highlights the challenges, opportunities and lives of the Iraqi people and the U.S. soldiers stationed there.
Producer/director of Shidog Films, Shiley is a photographer, filmmaker and freelance journalist. He recently returned from Iraq where he developed exclusive stories for "ABC World News Tonight," "Nightline," "Good Morning America" and ABC-TV affiliates in Oregon and Florida, as well as international humanitarian aid groups and a variety of online news services.

The series is made possible by MCC's Student Union Government Association, and Student Activities Office. This program is part of The Middle East Program Series, a collaboration between Student Activities and the Social Science Division.
