MCC Joins the Blogosphere!
Greetings, and welcome to everyone interested in all things Middlesex Community College! (At least we think that's who you are if you've landed here at this exciting new blogsite!)
With this week, Middlesex joins the multitude of folks and organizations out there who use an internet blog to keep folks up to date on the comings and goings of their daily lives. And at the risk of insulting the real cybernauts among us, for those who don't know, a blog is a website where journal-style entries are posted. The word is derived from the words "web log."
In the case of this blog, we hope to bring you news about current faculty, staff, students and adminstrators, to let you know what some of our folks are up to. The blog will be used as an interactive clearinghouse for us to share information about upcoming events at our college, the largest and most comprehensive community college in Massachusetts, with campuses in both Bedford and Lowell.
But just as importantly, we want to use this blog as a place where you, the public, or our students (past and present) can interact with us. Leave us your comments, suggestions, and questions. If you're a member of our alumni, this will be a great opportunity for you to let us know what you've been up to!
Current faculty and staff, this will be the perfect place for you to let everyone know what you're working on. Just drop us a line through our comments links.
To get things started, here's a special shout-out to MCC alum Carlos A. Madden, a Cambridge resident and a sergeant in the U.S. Army. Madden's story was detailed in Sunday's Boston Globe newspaper. Last week, he received the Soldier's Medal, the Army's highest award for peacetime heroism, for his efforts to help a neighbor who had been attacked in their Cambridge neighborhood in December, 2005. Just hours after finishing his finals here at MCC, Madden was awakened by his sister, who told him about a woman being assaulted outside. Madden rushed outside and chased the woman's assailant, helping police locate him nearby. Madden, now a history major at Framingham State College, also received a key to the city of Cambridge for his actions.
We know our students, faculty and staff do wonderful things daily, and hopefully we'll be able to tell you about more of them as this blog progresses. We eagerly look forward to hearing from you, and hope you find this blog useful!
