Today we'll feature a second COP, one that may be of particular interest to some of our community college members.

Community College Assessment: Unique Needs, Issues and Challenges–-"This AAHE COP brings together a group of community college assessment practitioners intent on learning from each other through research-sharing, spirited discussion, and solution-seeking strategies that will advance assessment in two-year institutions. Facilitator: Ray D. Somera, Guam Community College"

One interesting aspect of this community is that they have made use of the chat function of the WebCenter as a tool to discuss their topics and connect with one another. They also have a number of files available for download in their resources section.

Cognitive-Affective Relationship in Teaching and Learning is the title of one of the communities led by Patti Owen-Smith, cluster coordinator, Scholarship Supporting the Cognitive-Affective Relationship in Teaching and Learning Campus Program Cluster, AAHE Campus Program and professor of psychology and women's studies, Oxford College of Emory. Early discussions have centered around student engagement and the role of emotions in the classroom. The community also features a number of articles and other resources related to their theme.

Who's Here?

WebCenter Profiles and Directory

Most COPPER members have a sense of being part of a larger community (beyond their individual Carnegie group), but many of us have yet to meet in person, and we may not have any particular association when we see the name of another member appearing on the blog. While national gatherings such as the AAHE conferences and the Middlesex Summer SoTL institute will assist us in making connections, it may also be valuable for us to use our virtual communication resources for that purpose. We'll be exploring some possible ways to accomplish this goal in coming months, but there is a simple step that can get us started. Below is a reposting of an earlier guide to making use of the profile and directory on our WebCenter. It will allow you to see the names, disciplines or positions, and contact information for each of our COPPER members.

The WebCenter provides contact information for our entire cluster. After logging in (the link is at the top left of this page) click on the COPPER tab. You will see the "Directory" button on the left. Selecting this option will provide you with a list of all participants in our cluster plus the names of several key individuals at AAHE. Click on a name to view contact information for that person.

What if someone selects your name?

In many cases they will only see your name and email address (these are the default items). To add your school phone number, address, discipline (or administrative position), open the "Profile" menu that is available on your home page when you log in (My Workplace). You can decide what information you wish to make available. Any information provided in your profile is only viewable to COPPER cluster listserv participants.

Multiple Choices

Our AAHE WebCenter integrates multiple communities within one interface. In general we refer to the COPPER community when we describe the WebCenter's features. However, those same features are available for two additional communities (actually more in some cases, but we'll try not to complicate matters for now). Each college in our cluster also has a tab at the top of your WebCenter page when you log in. That means that your local Carnegie members have access to a discussion board, resource area, chat function, etc. that mirrors our COPPER site, but is only available to your campus. In addition, you will see a "Campus Clusters" tab at the top of the page. Clicking on that tab will open up an additional menu of options that are available to all 12 clusters in the Carnegie Academy Program. This area provides an opportunity to communicate with other clusters. While there is not a lot of activity currently in the Campus Clusters area, as the clusters develop we should anticipate the possibility that this resource will become a valuable tool for the exchange of ideas.

Where did that email go?

If you have ever have a need to locate past email messages sent to you by our COPPER listserv, or you want to view messages that were sent prior to the time some members joined the cluster, help is available. If you haven’t visited the WebCenter recently, be sure to check out these discussions and add your input.
