Donna Duffy began with the metaphor of a snapshot versus a photo album to illustrate the value of comprehensive assessment of learning. She presented the ways she assessed student learning and the effectiveness of her methods in an Abnormal Psychology class. Jessie Klein followed with the methods she used to assess the value of case studies in improving student learning in a Biology class. Finally, Sandi Regan showed how she used and assessed the effectiveness of creating games to help her students better understand various theories of intellectual development in children.
Participants were encouraged to ask research and assessment questions in their classes that might also apply to a larger venue, community, or across disciplines. Some broader areas of application might include institutional focus on student success, program assessment, writing across the curriculum, and outcomes assessment.
