Now that the dust has settled a bit since the Middlesex Summer Institute and the AAHE Summer Academy I feel like I can take a "Reflective Breather" and say a few words about the MCC Institute. First of all I want to thank the folks at MCC for putting together such an outstanding institute. Not only was it wonderfully organized but it was a pefect opportunity to bring people together to begin this SoTL work.Everyone from NECC who attended was most impressed with how well "Communities of Practice" became a reality. For many people, the COPPER part of this and the possibilities for connections beyond our own colleges seemed likely to happen. I'd also like to add that the follow up and session write ups were very good. Following the Institute, some of us met shortly after in VT. for the AAHE Academy. We could see that we came a long way since last summer and once again it was obvious and exciting to see how the cluster members had come together to bring the Community of Practice up one more notch as we sought to find ways to make the inter-college connections happen. We left there feeling pretty good about our future SoTL plans and I think we can all look forward to an exciting year. Also, once again, Donna Duffy gave everything she had to bring together our cluster with other new clusters and folks from Carnegie in order to make sure we were well grounded in our SoTL future. For those of us who enjoyed some jokes at Donnas' expense,it might be worth noting that we all had regular breaks and even got in the occasional swim.
