Lowell MA k-12 teachers explore Cambodian ceramics

Each week since January, an enthusiastic group of Lowell Public School teachers have been getting creative with clay at Middlesex Community College.

The workshop series is taught by MCC Professor and kiln master Yary Livan along with LPS art teacher Jacqui Miller.

Participants are making animal sculptures, masks and pottery, while learning traditional Cambodian forms and ornamentation. In addition, they study Cambodian culture and history in an online seminar format. Teachers are also developing units of study to bring back to their classrooms next fall.

Everyone is looking forward to firing their art work in the woodburning kiln on April 26, starting early in the predawn hours and continuing into the afternoon.
