Well it has been a long time since a posting but I thought I would write about my attendance at the Sloan-C conference in Orlando this past week. Originally I went to gain some insight into Blended Learning (MCC calls it Hybrid) and I ended up coming away with so much more. I'm not sure that I learned anything new about Hybrid courses that I did not already know through my own personal research.
However there were a wide variety of sessions on things such as quality standards, fully online training, assessing faculty skill for teaching online, and making sure that students are prepared for online courses that really made me think about how we do things at Middlesex and perhaps how we can do them better. What would you think of having some of basic Blackboard training totally online? If you want to teach online you would need to pass the starter courses before you could take the online training.
There is all this and so much more. I can only hope that what I learned and took in at the conference will help to make our program better.
